Untainted: In Excess

It’s no secret that we favour natural and organic makeup products for their high performance and kind-to-skin formulas. When it comes to makeup artists, more and more are making the switch to the ‘green beauty’ market - however some are real pioneers in the industry, and Khandiz Joni is certainly one of them. We’ve collaborated with Khandiz before at Glasshouse and are avid followers of her beautiful, creative makeup artistry. However the launch of her recent platform - Untainted - has impressed us so much we just had to share one of the online magazine’s recent editorials.

Untainted was created by Khandiz to dispel a certain myth surrounding ‘clean’ beauty products. “Whenever I tell people that I work exclusively with natural and organic (aka untainted) beauty, the immediate assumption is that there are limitations with what can be achieved” she told us, “I cannot count the number of times people assume that I only do ‘natural looking’ makeup. I started Untainted to push back against the traditional clean beauty narrative that appears on social media and in the mindset of most.”

As a professional in the industry, Khandiz also wanted to use it as a platform to show off just exactly the looks these products can achieve. She explained, “I wanted to be able to prove to myself and others the the only limitations are our own thinking whilst creating a space where the ‘unconverted’ could see that clean beauty has a fantastic offering, without force-feeding a healthy or eco message. Just showing effective products.”

This is exactly what Khandiz has done with Untainted, where you can expect creative, boundary-pushing work, including one of the publication’s most recent editorials, In Excess. Paying homage to the eras of excess (namely the 70s and 80s), the makeup-heavy image series is satisfying our current penchant for bold colours and throwback-style hair. “In Excess was for the A Feast for Gluttony issue of Untainted, which, in contradiction to its name, explored notions about how we could become more gluttonous with our time, rather than become gluttonous with our consumption” she cleverly explains. “Very simply put, I wanted to see how much makeup I could physically (and emotionally) apply to a face.”

Photographed by Amanda Fordyce against a single backdrop, we just had to share the shoot which uses some of our favourite Glasshouse-stocked brands, from Ilia to RMS and Jane Iredale. See what else Untainted has to offer here.
