The Glasshouse Guide to Self Care

It goes without saying that we’re all in the midst of a challenging period. It also goes without saying that the vast majority of us will also be spending a lot more time at home than usual. Looking after ourselves - whether that’s our body, our mind or our loved ones - is more important than ever. At Glasshouse, we are great believers in the power of self care. Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness for ourselves can do wonders for our mental wellbeing, and they can also be pretty great for our skin, body, hair and mind too.

So, with the spirit of self care in mind, we have handpicked our favourite products for carving out some much-needed moments of beauty joy in the next few weeks. Featuring some of our favourite independent brands, each product is available for home delivery online at Glasshouse Shop

Evolve Gentle Cleansing Melt

This luxurious cleansing balm by Evolve Beauty is indulgent and effective - formulated with soothing baobab and rejuvenating vitamin C for a deep cleanse. Unlike traditional foaming cleansers, this jelly-like texture melts into the skin forming a nourishing milk and making for a much more therapeutic cleansing experience. We love pairing it with a soft muslin cloth and it’s a great formula for all skin types, but particularly good on dry skin. Use it morning and night, and give yourself a little facial massage at the same time for the ultimate self care moment.

Guy Morgan Gua Sha

We adore everything East London based skincare guru Guy Morgan does. But we’ve fallen particularly hard for his latest product, this handcrafted 100% white Nephrite Jade Gua Sha. Never heard of a Gua Sha before? Think of it as a more effective jade roller, that helps penetrate skin that little bit deeper and makes for a more emotionally-connected addition to your beauty routine, as well as boosting your skin’s natural glow. Based on ancient Chinese rituals, Guy has prioritised fine craftsmanship and fair trading with this beautiful tool. Pair it with your favourite facial oil, close the bedroom door and use it to massage each area of your face and neck, for improved microcirculation and blood flow.

Blasta Henriet Eye Pillow

Most of us suffer from tension around the eyes and forehead every now and then, but if you’re having to work from home at the moment and aren’t having as much fresh air as you like, there’s a chance you might be suffering from it more often. Swedish brand Blasta Henriet specialise in traditional linen and wheat self care products, and their handy Eye Pillow is a great natural pain reliever. Designed to be microwaved and used as a warm compress, the pillow helps ease migraines, cramping and pain, as well as helping to relax the mind and body. With our health and wellbeing at the centre of our attention at the moment, this is a soothing companion to have around.

Earl of East Shinrin-Yoku Bath Salts

There’s no better act of self care than soaking in a long, hot bath, and some of us might be enjoying more of them than usual. If lots of time indoors has made you crave some proper muscle relaxation, Earl of East’s Japanese-inspired Shinrin-Yoku Bath Salts could be the ticket. This blend of dead sea and Epsom salts are infused with Cedarwood and Black Pepper, inspired by the forest atmosphere. Scattering some handfuls in a hot bath will help relieve tension, soothe tired muscles and boost your immune system - what’s not to like? Soak away.

Glasshouse Wooden Dry Body Brush

If you need an extra oomph to get you going in the morning, our very own Glasshouse Wooden Dry Body Brush is the perfect exhilarator and invigorator. Designed for dry body brushing, this brush will stimulate the lymphatic system and gently exfoliate dead skin cells to keep you feeling smooth and healthy. Spending a few minutes every morning brushing towards the heart has a whole host of benefits, and makes for a mindful moment of peace before the day starts. Each brush is traditionally made in Germany’s Black Forest, using sustainable methods and socially responsible wood for a timeless item that’s designed to last.

Honest Candle

Not all self care rituals are for your skin and hair - some are just there to ease the mind and make your home a haven of peace and relaxation. Honest’s Candles are beautiful, simple and soothing. Whether it’s sweet and warming honey or zesty and uplifting yuzu, their scents will fill your home and the amber glass packaging will give you some much-needed aesthetic pleasure as well. Packaged in recycled glass, each candle has a burn time of up to 35 hours - so light up, lie back and enjoy one of the life’s simplest pleasures.
