Street food and cocktail gurus Night Tales have been on our weekend pop-up radars for a while now. Taking over outdoor market spaces in East London and filling them with an A-Z of London’s most delicious food and drink, Night Tales have now made the leap into bricks and mortar and opened a permanent space in our very own Netil House!

Collaborating with the kings of toasties and Netil Market neighbours Morty + Bob’s, NT’s is a cocktail bar, evening snack spot and morning coffee pitstop rolled into one. Situated on the second floor of the building, the open plan space is full of plants and low lighting, overlooking the railway and featuring an outdoor terrace perfect for a touch of sunset-spotting.

The bar stocks a variety of interesting spirits and concoctions and we love the red LED ‘Liquor’ sign lighting up the back wall. Expect seasonal cocktails such as the Blood Moon Spritz; a blend of Campari, mango, blood orange, lemon, grapefruit bitters and soda that will definitely see us through the month…

As you can imagine, we’re rather pleased they’ve chosen our home as their new home and have already hotfooted it upstairs to satisfy our afternoon hunger pangs. Food comes courtesy of Morty + Bob’s and couldn’t be more tempting. Their avocado on toast is one of the best in the borough (believe us, there’s a lot), however this duo are known for their grilled cheese sandwiches, which Time Out have described as ‘melty miracles’. Using British cheese from Neal’s Yard, the toasties are served with obligatory pickles and a side of truffle parmesan fries with aioli. Could we wish for better neighbours?

NT’s directors and resident bar whizz’s, Louis and Jamie, have treated us to a cocktail recipe from their evening drinks menu. A twist on a classic gin sour, the Mother Sour is a delicate blend of gin and citrus, with a taste of the Far East in the form of Japanese yuzu. “The Mother Sour is made by making a homemade sweet and sour mix with Wilkins & Sons Crystal Orange Marmalade and freshly squeezed lemon juice.” says Louis “We dry shake this mix (with no ice) with Beefeater gin, orange blossom water, Japanese yuzu bitters (we get ours from Brooklyn, New York) and egg whites until smooth and foamy. We then shake again with ice and strain into an Old Fashioned glass which is garnished with a sun-dried orange wheel”. The result is an amber-coloured delight, ideal for late-night sipping…

Open for daytime trading Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm and evenings from 5pm-till late, NT’s is our latest neighbourhood hangout with a cosy space to match. So if you’re visiting Glasshouse for a hair remedy, you know where to head after to unwind…
