Girls on film: Anna Karina in Pierrot Le Fou

Pierrot Le Fou (French for Pierrot the madman) is a French New Wave classic from 1965 directed by master of the genre Jean Luc Godard. The film is a plethora of vibrant colours, startling editing choices and strange performances including the frequent breaking of the fourth wall.

The film focuses on Ferdinand (Jean-Paul Belmondo) an unhappily married man and Marianne (Anna Karina) who is his babysitter and ex-girlfriend. The pair run away and go on a crime spree from Paris to the Mediterranean Sea and live an unorthodox lifestyle involving explosions, role play, and hedonistic life choices.

We love the high contrast and bright colour palette used in the film alongside Anna Karina’s larger than life and possibly insane character. Her summer wardrobe in Pierrot Le Fou is entirely enviable, full of short summer dresses, and curtsy skirt and cardigan combo’s which perfectly counter her gung-ho attitude.

We love Anna’s collar length bob with sweet, brow brushing bangs. Whether it’s pulled up into a half-pony left down her style always looks chic and effortless, and who doesn’t love a voluminous 60’s blow dry for those fancier occasions (such as murder).

If you’re thinking of taking some inspo from Anna they why not pop by the salon for a complimentary consultation. Call us on 020 3095 9783 or drop us an email at info@glasshousesalon.co.uk.
