As summer draws to an end and the autumn months set in, we’re hanging up our swimsuits and sunglasses and looking towards new sources of inspiration. That’s where Kids in Love, the debut photo book by New York photographer Olivia Bee, comes in very handy.

The book is a dreamy ode to transition, making it perfect for glancing through this time of year. It’s comprised of a dreamy photo series which, most of all, depicts change – changes in seasons and weather, changes in the bodies and lives of its subjects.

And whilst this is a book which predominantly features young people on the brink of new life adventures, we think that it can resonate with anyone, especially as we head into the colder months – plus, its throwback-style shots of teens give us all the rose-tinted, back-to-school nostalgia feels this time of year.

A professional photographer since age fifteen (she was spotted on social media by Converse, who saw something special in her aesthetic and flew her out to shoot her first campaign), Olivia has long been on our radar as a rising star. Since her Converse campaign, she has worked with brands as diverse as Hermès and Levi’s, and shot for Vogue. Her evocative, young style, therefore, remains very much in demand in the fashion world.

However, this is a long way from where Olivia began. She initially honed her skills on Instagram, and gained recognition for her online series ‘Enveloped in a Dream’ which depicts young women amidst the natural world, and is now collected in physical form within Kids In Love. Throughout the book, whether her subjects be human or geographical, Olivia manages to tell fascinating stories without saying anything at all, and that’s what has us so hooked.

Photographing her friends, Olivia achieves honest and warm portraits of them at a very specific time, again often against a backdrop of nature. Due to the youth of her subjects, there is a sense of wanting to ‘capture the moment’ which we can really relate to as the summer ends and we (perhaps reluctantly) move on with the final part of 2016.

Colourful, exciting, and full of possibilities, we think Kids in Love is exactly the sort of inspiration you need as we move on from summer. If you’re feeling stuck in a rut, a flick through these pages which seem to speak the language of change, could be just what you need.
