Our photography radar is forever on high alert, and it’s always great to discover new sources of Pinterest-worthy visual inspiration. The latest photo find comes courtesy of London-based photographer, Sophie Harris-Taylor. We’re not sure whether it’s the intimate body crops, crumpled bedsheet scenes or rugged landscapes, but we’re feeling more than a little enamoured with Sophie’s work.
Studying Fine Art Photography at Kingston University, we can definitely see the artistic element in her work - the mood and tones of her pictures are more reminiscent of a watercolour painting than any sharp focused photo. Sophie’s particular interest lies in the vulnerability of human beings - her images succeed in portraying the unique beauty that can be found through this kind of sensitivity.
Sophie’s chosen subjects also avoid any notions of conventional beauty, instead focusing on a deeper meaning, highlighting strangeness and individuality - a concept we wholeheartedly appreciate here at Glasshouse.
At the moment Sophie is in the process of publishing a collection of works she’s captured over the past few years. Entitled MTWTFSS, the book is a Kickstarter project she’s currently gathering crowd-funding for. One glance at the series of images and we’re sold - these are the most personal of portraits featuring some of Sophie’s nearest and dearest.
From freckled limbs to naked bodies floating in water, the images tell a story of life and untouched landscapes in the most beautiful, pared-back way. Speaking to Thisispaper about the project, Sophie says “In familiar, often mundane surroundings I seek to capture some element of truth of our lives. For me, these everyday, forgotten nothings are more important and truthful than any other. These are the moments between the momentous.”
Photography can be one of the most honest medians of communication and photos don’t come much more raw and honest than these. Our eyes are peeled for more of Sophie’s work!
